Resume Checklist

April 24, 2019

If you’ve been working in an academic setting for most of your professional life, you are probably familiar with CVs. However, jobs outside of academia typically ask for a resume as part of the application process. We provide a resume checklist to help you proofread your resume.

Does your resume have your name, address, phone number and professional email address?
Do you have a statement of your summary of qualifications?
Is your education listed with degree, field, institution and year graduated?
Do you clearly have your position titles, employer names, city and state location, and dates?
Is each work experience followed by bullet points detailing what situation/problem you were addressing, what actions you’ve taken and the outcome?
Do you have only relevant work experiences that fit the job description listed?
Are you using the same keywords from the job posting in your resume?
Is your resume 2 pages or less?
Do you have enough white space to make it easy for the reader to skim?
Did you double-check your resume for grammar & spelling errors?

If you are looking for tips on writing better industry resumes, we can help there, too. Just watch this enlightening video on "10 Tips for Writing Better Science Industry Resumes."
