On October 24, ASM co-hosted a Congressional briefing, "Leading the Charge Against Antimicrobial Resistance: Partnering to Meet the Challenge," with Research!America, AdvaMedDX, and BD. ASM President Robin Patel and CEO Stefano Bertuzzi participated in the event, which drew a standing room-only crowd. Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) also stopped by and spoke about his leadership of the DISARM Act with Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA). This legislation, which ASM supports, aims to improve antibiotic stewardship in hospitals through Medicare reimbursement incentives and better data collection.

Patel shared her perspective as a physician-scientist who sees antimicrobial resistance from bench to bedside, and Craig described the CDC's AMR Challenge, its efforts to bring partners together to address this problem, and showed a video developed by CDC on the subject. Van Meter spoke to the need for continued development of effective diagnostics and adoption of their use in the clinical setting, and Yu share more about BD's MedMined program that assists hospitals in tracking AMR and antibiotic use.
