Alice Weissfeld, Ph.D., is president, CEO and laboratory director of Microbiology Specialists Incorporated. She earned her Ph.D. in microbiology at Rutgers University, N.J., and completed a post doctoral fellowship in Public Health and Medical Laboratory Microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Medical Microbiology and a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology. Speaking internationally on a variety of issues including laboratory regulations, quality control and environmental and clinical microbiology, her areas of expertise include virology, pathogenic bacteriology, mycobacteriology, administration and regulatory affairs. Weissfeld is an author of the newly revised 12th edition of Bailey and Scott’s Diagnostic Microbiology. She is the past chair of ASM's Committee on Professional Affairs for Microbiology and a former chair of the Environmental Microbiology Laboratory Accreditation Committee of the American Industrial Hygiene Association.
