Anthony (Tony) Tran, Dr.PH., MPH, D(ABMM), MT(ASCP)

Anthony (Tony) Tran, Dr.PH., MPH, D(ABMM), MT(ASCP), is director of the FDA’s San Francisco Laboratory. He received his B.S. in medical technology from the University of Maryland at Baltimore, School of Medicine, his M.P.H. from the University of Maryland, College Park and his Dr.PH. from the University of California, Berkeley. He completed his clinical microbiology fellowship from UNC Health Care and is a diplomate of the American Board of Medical Microbiology.
 
He has nearly 20 years of public health and clinical laboratory experience, including work at the national, state and local levels. Prior to his doctorate, he worked at the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL). More recently, as the director of policy and operations at the NYC Bureau of the Public Health Laboratory, Tran provided guidance and direction to all areas of the laboratory and was involved in the City’s response to Ebola, NYC’s largest Legionnaires’ disease outbreak and Zika. He then served as director of the District of Columbia’s Public Health Laboratory where he led the city’s testing efforts in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. He also was a member of the APHL board of directors and their COVID-19 task force.
