April Abbott, Ph.D., D(ABMM), is the Director of Microbiology and Molecular Diagnostics at Deaconess Health System in Evansville, Indiana. Abbott earned her doctoral degree from the University of Texas at Houston. She completed a postdoctoral medical and public health microbiology fellowship at the University of Washington and is a board-certified diplomate of the American Board of Medical Microbiology.
Her clinical interests include advancing antimicrobial susceptibility testing, developing molecular techniques to improve the detection of pathogens and diagnostic stewardship. She is a longtime member of the American Society for Microbiology and the Journal of Clinical Microbiology editorial board. She also serves on working groups for the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute.
