Jerry Kavouras, Ph.D., is a professor of biology at Lewis University, where he has taught biology and environmental science majors for 18 years. He works to strengthen student skill sets to increase success in the classroom and beyond. He mentors undergraduates on research projects to improve inquiry skills and prepare students for graduate studies.
His students have presented at national and international meetings and published their work in peer-reviewed journals. Kavouras earned a Ph.D. in the biological sciences from Marquette University, studying the interactions between zebra mussels and microbial communities on surfaces. He serves on the 2023 ASM Conference for Undergraduate Educators (ASMCUE) Planning Committee as a veteran representative and served as a section editor for ASM’s Sample Questions in Microbiology (2016).
