Kenneth Gavina, Ph.D., D(ABMM), SM(ASCP), is an assistant professor of clinical pathology at Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) and the Director of Clinical Microbiology and Serology for Eskenazi Health in Indianapolis. He received his Ph.D. in medical microbiology and immunology from the University of Alberta, subsequently completing a fellowship in molecular diagnostic development at McMaster University, followed by a CPEP-accredited medical and public health laboratory microbiology fellowship at IUSM. He is certified by the American Board of Medical Microbiology.
Gavina is currently a councilor for the Pan American Society for Clinical Virology (PASCV) and serves on multiple committees for both PASCV and ASM, including the Clinical Virology Symposium Program Planning Committee. He is also involved in the IUSM CPEP Medical and Public Health Laboratory Microbiology Fellowship Program, IUSM ACGME Medical Microbiology Fellowship Program, and IUSM In Vitro Diagnostics Development and Clinical Trials Group. His research interests revolve around molecular diagnostics, diagnostic stewardship, novel assay design for emerging infectious diseases and developing affordable point-of-care diagnostics for use in low-resource settings.
