I am a physician-scientist at the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital. Clinically, I am a pediatric pulmonologist- a lung specialist- and my clinical practice focuses on children with chronic lung infections. Accordingly, my scientific interests center around understanding how microbes cause, or contribute to, chronic diseases in children. In my research laboratory, we work to accurately identify the microbes, and microbial behaviors, that are important for a range of pediatric diseases. To do this, we often use involve using DNA-based sequencing methods, also known as microbiome approaches.
