Rangaraj Selvarangan, Ph.D., D(ABMM), FIDSA, FAAM, is the director of the medical microbiology laboratory at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He is a professor in the department of pathology and laboratory medicine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine and a professor in the division of infectious diseases at Children’s Mercy Hospital. He holds the William R. Brown Missouri Endowed Chair in Medical Genetics and Molecular Medicine and directs the Emerging Infections Research Program at Children’s Mercy Research Institute.
Selvarangan received a Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree from Tamil Nadu, India and a doctoral degree in medical microbiology at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. In addition, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in medical and public health laboratory microbiology at the University of Washington, Seattle. He is a board-certified diplomate of the American Board of Medical Microbiology, a fellow of the Infectious Disease Society of America and a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiologists.
Selvarangan manages a highly active research program funded by federal programs such as Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and National Institutes of Health (NIH) and through in vitro diagnostic industry support. He is the principal investigator of CDC sponsored New Vaccine Surveillance Network (NVSN) and has conducted numerous industry-sponsored clinical trials in in vitro diagnostics of infectious agents.
Selvarangan has presented more than 200 oral and poster presentations at regional, national and international conferences and published more than 160 manuscripts in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
