University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine
Rebecca L. Sanchez, Ph.D. is an assistant professor of microbiology at the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine in San Antonio, Texas. She received her Ph.D. in Microbiology & Immunology from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center at New Orleans studying mechanisms by which HSV-1 and HSV-2 evade host innate antiviral responses. She teaches Microbiology, Immunology, and Genetics to students in the Master of Biomedical Sciences and the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine programs.
Her research, done in partnership with the Texas Department of State Health Services and the Texas Antibiotic Resistance Laboratory Network, addresses antimicrobial resistance among Texas counties by identifying potential barriers for submitting antimicrobial resistant isolates to the AR Lab Network. An increase in the submission of antimicrobial resistant isolates to the AR Lab Network allows her team a better understanding of statewide resistance patterns which allow for rapid responses to cases of novel or high-concern antibiotic resistant organisms. Sanchez is currently serving as the Newcomer Representative for the ASM Conference for Undergraduate Educators.
