Richard A. Carnevale, VMD

Animal Health Institute

Dr. Richard Carnevale is Vice-President for Regulatory, Scientific, and, International Affairs, for the Animal Health Institute (AHI), an animal pharmaceutical industry trade association representing the interests of the industry with government agencies and legislators. He has been with the AHI since 1995.  Before joining the Institute he held positions at the USDA Food Safety Inspection Service as the Assistant Deputy Administrator for Science in charge of the residue and microbiological testing programs, and with the FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine as Deputy Director in the Office of New Animal Drug Evaluation.  

Dr. Carnevale has worked for more than 35 years in the regulatory, scientific, and international arenas of animal health and food safety and has been a frequent presenter at scientific and professional meetings on antibiotic resistance and the views of the pharmaceutical industry.  He has also represented the industry in numerous print and broadcast media stories where this issue has been portrayed, and has developed a keen perspective on where the industry sees the problem and its importance with regard to food safety and public health. 

Dr. Carnevale holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Arizona and a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine.
