Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai
Talia Swartz, M.D., Ph.D., is the Senior Associate Dean and Director of M.D.-Ph.D. Education and an associate professor of medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Medical Education at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Swartz is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. Her clinical training is in infectious diseases with a specific interest in care for people with HIV, and her basic science interest is in the biology that underlies chronic HIV infection and severe COVID-19. Swartz’s NIH-funded research laboratory investigates the signaling that mediates inflammatory signaling in response to infection and aims to develop novel treatment paradigms that reduce the morbidity and mortality of HIV-1 disease and COVID-19.
Swartz is deeply committed to supporting the training of physician-scientists through the recruitment and support of trainees from diverse backgrounds who are navigating dual training in medicine and biomedical science. She engages in innovative curricular development, outreach and student support, both at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and through the AAMC GREAT Group M.D./Ph.D. Section Communications Committee, where she has been developing resources to make physician-scientist training accessible to future trainees.
