Thessicar Antoine-Reid, Ph.D.
MetroHealth Medical Center
Dr. Thessicar Antoine-Reid is the medical director of microbiology and immunology at the MetroHealth Medical Center and an assistant professor at Case Western Medical School. Antoine-Reid received a Ph.D in microbiology and immunology in 2014 under the mentorship of Dr. Deepak Shukla.
Antoine-Reid is noted for her role in the functionalization of nanoparticles as an alternative treatment against herpes simplex virus. By establishing multi-disciplinary collaborators domestically and internationally, she discovered the competitive prevention of herpes virus with cellular receptors, thus efficiently blocking viral attachment, the first step of HSV pathogenesis. Her usage of nanoparticles has brought strong support and excitement across many academic and non-academic audiences. These findings created a new paradigm for the usage of nanoparticles as a microbicide and intravaginal vaccination. In 2018, she was awarded a national fellowship by the American Society of Microbiology in clinical microbiology and public health and completed clinical training as a medical. microbiologist at Vanderbilt University under the mentorship of Charles Stratton.
Antoine-Reid is dedicated to inclusive diversity in the education system, is committed to advancing diagnostic testing against viral infections and advocates for efficient patient care globally.
Antoine-Reid is a member of the Subcommittee on Microbiological Issues Impacting Minorities (SMIIM).
