Working with the director, the Clinical Microbiology Specialist is responsible for the management of ASM’s laboratory technical content that promotes and advances the practice of clinical microbiology and public health. This position supports the goals of the department and the mission of ASM.

Primary Functions:
  • Drafts ASM’s response/position on issues
  • Verbally present ASM’s position at external meetings
  • Networks with external organizations to enhance ASM’s impact and to stay abreast of laboratory issues
  • Manages all subcommittee work
  • Collaborates and coordinates with Public Policy Staff on regulatory and legislative issues and advocacy for the science and profession.
  • Complies with company policies, procedures and regulations
  • Performs other related duties
Technical Competencies
  • Keep current and maintains knowledge of clinical microbiology
  • Excellent decision-making and organizational skills
  • Experience with Google Doc and Share Point
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Behavioral Competencies
  • Strong ability to interact professionally and comfortably with individuals at all levels
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to synthesize experts’ opinions and draft summary
  • Ability to professionally represent ASM
  • Excellent presentation skills to include oral, written and group presentations

  • Self-motivated and results driven
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment but also independently
Education and Experience
  • Masters degree in related field required
  • Five years of laboratory experience required
  • Project management and technical writing experience required
  • Experience with a non-profit, preferred
