This position is responsible for informing, inspiring and connecting with key stakeholders and play a key role in the organization’s growth.  The incumbent will also be responsible for brilliant execution, making bold moves and ensuring seamless collaboration in all aspects of marketing. This position supports the goals of the department and the mission of ASM and is a key player in the growth of the organization.

Primary Responsibilities:

Essential Functions
  • Develop and execute strategic marketing campaigns for large natural scientific society to drive sustained growth in scientific publishing, membership, meetings and other key products programs and services.
  • Lead and advise marketing team, consultants and vendors
  • Develop, manage and oversee related and departmental budgets
  • Develops recommendationsand oversees adherence to budgets for assigned activities and business lines
  • Develop, oversee and implement enterprise marketing strategy including the organization’s brand identity
  • Build customer engagement with ASM resulting in society growth and success
  • Leverage data and insight to identify key marketing opportunities including developing new audiences for the society’s offerings
  • Integrate marketing campaigns with Society’s multi-channel communication effort.
  • Track, analyze and report marketing performance and adjust approaches as needed to achieve agreed-to business goals
  • Leverage new technologies to support marketing goals.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with ASM staff and leaders to ensure marketing achieves desired levels of impact, including meeting revenue and other performance goals
  • Oversee key vendors and partners to execute enterprise-level services, audits, consulting partnerships, etc., and to inform new strategic directions for the Society
  • Serve as marketing expert across all ASM departments to raise ASM's visibility and impact
  • Responsible for marketing ASM's high profile programs
  • Lead efforts to leverage data to inform and improve marketing strategy
  • Complies with company policies, procedures and regulations
  • Performs other related duties
Required Education and Experience:
  1. 10+ years of experience in leading marketing for a scientific organization with understanding of professional associations
  2. Bachelor's degree in marketing or similar discipline, MBA preferred
  3. Background, training or experience in the biological sciences (preferably microbiology or a medically related field).
  4. 5 years' supervisory experience.
  5. Budget development and reporting experience
  6. Prior contract negotiation and contract management experience
  7. Experience with a non-profit, preferred
