This position is responsible for responsible for developing and executing marketing and promotion strategies and campaigns for membership acquisition, renewal and engagement.  This position supports the goals of the department and the mission of ASM and the business objectives of the membership team.

Primary Responsibilities:

Essential Functions
  • Develop, direct and execute marketing and promotion strategies and campaigns
  • Direct and guide the strategy for all integrated marketing activity required by Society functions related to the membership department. Ensure effective execution
  • Serve as key leader in the Marketing Department working with peers, Assistant Directors and Directors to ensure excellence and to encourage high morale
  • Lead cross functional teams to deliver breakthrough integrated campaigns which can include direct marketing, corporate communications, marketing automation, special events, public relations, etc. supporting launches, re-launches, new programs, awareness campaigns, and ongoing business initiatives
  • Build and maintain integrated campaign dashboards to track response rates, acquisition costs, return on investment, and other measures of success. Share results with senior management and other key stakeholders to assist in data-driven decision making.
  • Explore innovations and best practices in marketing.Implement based on best fit and organizational readiness.
  • Working with key business lines, establish appropriate budgets.Manage budgets creatively and effectively to generate the highest targeted return.
  • Work with outside vendors, as needed, to bring special skills to a campaign or to supplement inside staff.
  • Demonstrate personal and professional commitment to working collaboratively with all Society personnel, to supporting internal business unit accounts and members, to fostering a spirit of creativity, and to striving for operational excellence in all areas of responsibility
  • Leverage business intelligence to improve performance as well as identify and reach new markets
  • Monitor competitive offers and approaches.
  • Working with extended team members, research activities related to portfolio products/programs and audience assessment of awareness, knowledge, attitudes and behaviors
  • Leverage business intelligence to shape breakthrough strategies to move organization ahead.
  • Provide guidance support and corrective feedback to marketing staff. Develop a training program to provide necessary skills for completion of successful projects
  • Delegate responsibilities as appropriate. Balance and oversight skills by helping support staff accomplish their goals. Develop plan to appropriately identify potential challenges for proper guidance and ensure staff is working at a level appropriate to their position
  • Evaluate performance and communicate any necessary modifications
Required Education and Experience:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in marketing or communications.Graduate degree in related field or extensive professional experience a plus
  2. Seven years’ experience in and mastery of developing and managing dynamic breakthrough marketing campaigns and teams
  3. Experience serving as product line and customer advocate
  4. Experience in marketing communications environment with a large scientific/health/medical association
  5. Understanding of and experience in membership engagement, acquisition and renewal in a scientific organization or professional society
  6. Experience in budget development and management
  7. At least 3 years supervisory and employee development experience
  8. Budget management experience
  9. Experience with a non-profit, preferred
