Abdi Warfa, Ph.D., received his bachelor's degree in chemistry and biochemistry from the University of California San Diego, a master’s degree and Ph.D. candidacy in chemical biology from the University of Washington Seattle (malaria biochemistry) and a Ph.D. in science education from the University of Minnesota. His research group in the Department of Biology Teaching and Learning at the University of Minnesota conducts interdisciplinary research that blends aspects of biology, educational theory, cognitive science and educational research methodologies (with particular focus on classroom dynamics and discourse) to improve the teaching and learning of biological sciences at the undergraduate level. He has wide publications on research methods in DBER (Discipline-Based Education Research in STEM), meta-analysis and studies on classroom discourse and dynamics. In addition to his research interests, Warfa teaches biochemistry and cell and molecular aspects of introductory biology. Before joining the University of Minnesota, he taught molecular biology and biochemistry at Metropolitan State University in St Paul, Minnesota.
