David Aronoff, M.D. received his B.S. in Microbiology (summa cum laude) from Indiana University and his M.D. from Tufts University. Following internship and residency training in internal medicine at Vanderbilt University, he completed both a clinical fellowship in infectious diseases and a research fellowship in clinical pharmacology. Aronoff then moved to the University of Michigan, where he completed a research postdoctoral fellowship in immunology.

Aronoff joined the faculty of the University of Michigan in 2002. He rose to the rank of Associate Professor with tenure in the Departments of Internal Medicine and Microbiology and Immunology, and in 2013 was recruited back to Vanderbilt University as Director of the Division of Infectious Diseases, with secondary faculty appointments in the Department of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Meharry Medical College.

Aronoff’s research focuses on bacterial infections that complicate pregnancy. He has also been on the frontlines of his institution’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
