Stationed in Oxford, U.K., Dinesh Soares, Ph.D., joined the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) as a journals development editor in 2023, marking the organization's inaugural staff appointment in Europe. His primary purview encompasses oversight of 7 ASM Journals, including Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, Applied and Environmental Microbiology, ASM Case Reports, Infection and Immunity, Journal of Bacteriology, Journal of Clinical Microbiology and Journal of Virology, with responsibilities spanning strategic development and management. 

Prior to his tenure at ASM, Soares served as Associate Publisher at the American Chemical Society (ACS), where he directed a team responsible for the management of 10 open access journals in the ACS Publications portfolio. Notably, 9 of these journals constituted the ACS Au (gold) community open access titles, launched under his leadership in 2021, in addition to ACS Omega, a prominent open access journal in the chemical sciences. Preceding his role at ACS Publications, where he worked since 2017, he briefly served as Editorial Manager at Karger Publishers.

Possessing a scientific background, Soares obtained his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Edinburgh in 2007. He holds a Master of Research degree in bioinformatics from the University of York, and a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry and zoology from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. After completing his Ph.D., he worked as a research fellow at the University of Edinburgh.

Soares has authored over 60 articles in esteemed journals, spanning various domains within the biological, medical and chemical sciences. His current professional interests and expertise extend to fostering engagement within the global scientific community on matters relating to publishing, alongside active involvement in educational and policy outreach initiatives.
