Irving Nachamkin, Dr.P.H, MPH, (DABMM), is emeritus professor of pathology and laboratory medicine in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He is past director of the Division of Laboratory Medicine (2009-20) and associate director of clinical microbiology (1982-2020) at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

His research interests are in diagnostic microbiology with a specific interest in gastrointestinal infections. He has been very active in his local eastern Penn. ASM branch as well as ASM. Currently, he is a member of the ASM Evidence Based Laboratory Medicine Guidelines Committee and the chair of the Academy's Subcommittee on Awards. Dr. Nachamkin is board certified in Medical Microbiology (DABMM) as well as a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, Infectious Disease Society of America and the College of Physicians of Philadelphia.
