Episode Summary

Enterococci, particularly vancomycin-resistant isolates tend to affect the most vulnerable and immunocompromised patients and are one of the most difficult bacteria to treat. In absence of robust clinical data, we'll discuss therapeutic approaches for these recalcitrant organisms.

Topics Discussed:

  • The clinical challenges posed by enterococcal infections.
  • Mechanistic basis of resistance with clinical implications.
  • Therapeutic strategies to treat these microorganisms.

  • Kerry L. LaPlante, PharmD. Professor and Chair, Pharmacy Practice, University of Rhode Island, Kingston, R.I.
  • William R. Miller, MD. Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases. University of Texas Health science Center at Houston.
