ASM’s Statement on the Future of MOSAIC
ASM is appalled that our peer scientific societies received notice that their NIH MOSAIC (Maximizing Opportunities for Scientific and Academic Independent Careers) grants were terminated. ASM is one of 5 scientific organizations providing professional development support through MOSAIC. We have not received a formal notice regarding our grant’s status, but we are deeply concerned about the impact this decision will have on the scientific community.
Together with our fellow scientific societies whose MOSAIC grants have been cancelled, ASM stands committed to supporting the professional development of our ASM MOSAIC Scholars. We will keep the ASM community informed with updates about the status of the program.
MOSAIC has fostered a national network of support for early career scientists, expanding opportunities for all to advance biomedical research and drive scientific progress. Elimination of this program marks a troubling step backward.
Ensuring that all talented scientists have the opportunity to address the pressing challenges of our time is essential to the future of the microbial sciences. ASM is, always has been, and always will be committed to empowering the next generation of microbial scientists with the resources, mentorship and opportunities they need to thrive. We will continue to support our MOSAIC Scholars and all early career scientists. ASM is dedicated to cultivating an environment where all scientists can innovate, collaborate and shape the future of microbial science to benefit humanity.
