ASM Student and Postdoctoral Travel Award

Sponsored by ASM and determined by the ASM Microbe Program Committee, this award recognizes outstanding abstracts submitted by students and postdocs advancing research in 1 of ASM Microbe's 3 interconnected meetings: ASM Health, ASM Applied & Environmental Microbiology and ASM Mechanism Discovery.

Program Details

5 recipients from each meeting will receive a $1,000 award to defray expenses associated with travel to ASM Microbe 2026 and complimentary registration.

Eligibility

To qualify for consideration, the applicant must be or provide:

  • A current ASM member at the time of application and remain active through the 2026 meeting.
  • Scientific abstract not previously published or presented at another conference.
  • Curriculum vitae (CV), including scientific focus area.
  • Two letters of nominations on institution letterhead written by the department chair and principal investigator or immediate director.
  • Applicant statement providing a brief overview (limit 500 words) of qualifications and how the travel award supports scientific research.
  • Not previously a recipient of an ASM Microbe travel award within the last 2 years.
  • An undergraduate student, graduate student or postdoctoral researcher.

Travel award funds are non-transferable and will be provided following the conclusion of ASM Microbe 2026 upon confirming awardee’s attendance at the meeting.

Travel Awards applications will be open from Wednesday, Oct. 15-Tuesday, Dec. 2. Applicants will be notified if they are selected to receive an award by Wednesday, Dec. 17.
