Microbiology Faculty Development Travel Award

The goal of the ASM Microbiology Faculty Development Travel Award is to increase the number of microbial sciences faculty who bring an array of diverse perspectives and experiences to the microbial sciences. This includes faculty from community colleges, Asian American and Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AAPISIs), Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs).

Travel awardees are required to:

  1. Serve as a mentor in the 2-year virtual ASM Future Leaders Mentorship Fellowship (FLMF) Program.
  2. Join a year-round virtual faculty learning community to further support continuous development of faculty.
  3. Participate in a faculty development programming series at ASM Microbe 2026: First session starts Thursday, June 4 at 9 a.m. ET.

Award Package

The award package includes complimentary registration and housing to ASM Microbe 2026. Hotel dates: Wednesday, June 3-Sunday, June 7.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria when applying:

  1. Faculty member.
  2. Currently conducting microbial sciences research or teaching a course(s) in the microbial sciences.
  3. Bring an array of diverse perspectives and experiences to the microbial sciences.
  4. Employed at a college, university or institution that promotes diverse perspectives and experiences.
  5. U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  6. 2026 ASM membership.

Previous recipients of an ASM Microbe travel award within the last 2 years are not eligible to apply.

Deadline Extended—Travel Award applications will be open from Oct. 15-Dec. 8.

Applicants will be notified if they are selected to receive an award by Wednesday, Dec. 17.
