Krupa Jani, M(ASCP), Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center answers the following question from ASM's Division C listserv:
"Do you perform swipe/wipe tests for Bacterial NGS or WGS? If you do and you pick up something, which will probably happen because NGS [Next Generation Sequencing] or WGS [Whole Genome Sequencing] can identify everything, how do you decide what is from contamination versus the environment? I can see the value of swipe or wipe tests for molecular assays with specific targets. I’m struggling with the value on broader assays that will identify everything, like Sanger sequencing and NGS. I would like to hear what others are doing."
