The National Institutes of Health requested input from the scientific community about how biosafety policies, practices and oversight can be modernized to keep up with advances in science and technology. On Dec. 15, 2025, Director of the NIH Office of Science Policy Lyric Jorgensen, Ph.D., and other NIH staff joined ASM for a webinar to share about the NIH Biosafety Modernization Initiative and how microbiologists can contribute to an updated NIH biosafety policy.
