Ask the Experts: AI, Citations, Collaborations and Conflicts of Interest in Peer Review
Sept. 16, 11:30 a.m. ET
Peer review is evolving under growing pressures—from rising submission volumes and new technologies to increasingly complex ethical questions.
For editors and reviewers, these changes raise practical questions about AI, citations, co-reviewing and conflicts of interest. When is it appropriate to use AI tools during peer review? What should reviewers consider when sharing a manuscript with a colleague or mentee for a co-review? Why does careful citation review matter? What might constitute a conflict of interest that should be disclosed or raised?
Join us for an interactive Ask the Experts session, featuring the Editor in Chief of the Journal of Microbiology & Biology Education® (JMBE), Stanley Maloy, Ph.D., and ASM’s Peer Review Manager, Laurie Webby, moderated by ASM Senior Program Officer for Ethics and Integrity, Aashi Chaturvedi, Ph.D.
Rather than a traditional presentation, we’ll use your questions to explore these and other practical challenges that arise during peer review. We’ll focus on what to look for, why it matters and when human judgment is essential.
Registrants are encouraged to submit questions in advance to help create a robust Ask the Experts Q&A format. Please submit those along with your registration. We will also welcome questions during the live webinar.
